Overview of MIME types
MIME is the abbreviation for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. It is a scheme that gives TightGate-Pro a Note on the data type used.
Media type and subtype
The MIME type consists of the specification of a media type and a subtype, separated by a slash. E.g. text/html or image/jpeg.
The following media types exist:

The media type determines the type of data structure, i.e. whether the data is stored in binary or ASCII format. The subtype refers to the file formats that are linked to a specific programme or must be executed with special programmes or plug-ins. Subtypes that begin with an "x-" are files that are executed on a server.

| inode/x-empty | Empty file+upload |
| unpack | If unpack is selected, archives are checked individually. The archive file is only sent to the user if all MIME types in the archive are permitted. As soon as a MIME type in the archive is not permitted for the user, the transfer is cancelled. The transfer log then shows which MIME type is not permitted. This principle works cumulatively. This means that all MIME types from all transfer groups in which the user ID is a member are permitted and not just the MIME types from the transfer group in which unpack is permitted. Caution: If the MIME type unpack is selected, no archives should be selected as MIME types, as otherwise the content check will fail and the archives will be transferred directly without being checked. |
